Bicycle Glossary - Z

Zefal - A manufacturer of bicycle accessories, especially known for tire pumps.

Zerk fitting - A nipple to which a grease gun can be attached to inject grease. Most modern bicycles do not have Zerk fittings but they are found on antique bicycles from time to time, especially on bottom brackets and rear hubs. Do not use the Zerk fitting. It is much more appropriate to overhaul the component so you can clean and inspect it, and control the amount of grease it will contain.
